Sioux Mythology:  2000 yrs. ago two warriors were hunting buffalo in the Black Hills.  They saw a white buffalo calf coming towards them.  It turned into a beautiful Indian girl.  One of the warriors had bad thoughts and a black cloud ascended upon him.  When the cloud lifted there was no flesh on his bones.  The other warrior knelt and began to pray.  The girl told him to go to his people and tell them of her coming in four days.

The White Buffalo Calf appeared as before and when the girl stepped forward she carried a sacred bundle, which she gave to the people.  The bundle was the White Buffalo  calf pipe which they have to this day.  The girl stayed with the people a few days, teaching them many things, and gave them seven sacred ceremonies.  When she left she prophesied that she would come again and that would be near the end when she would bring harmony to the world and the people again. 

On August 21, 1994, a white buffalo calf was born at Janesville, Wisconsin.
